This week I've really struggled to find any inspiration and quite honestly I've been lacking any real enthusiasm to blog. Next week will be better. But I thought this rather slow week for fashion news would be a good time to bring back one of the post popular posts: would you rather?

Florence Welch in US Vogue's April Issue

Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine has well and truly made it in America. Recently she's been rocking pretty much every red carpet stateside, she made an appearance in Gossip Girl and has now been photographed by Tim Walker for the April issue of US Vogue. Not bad going. And she looks beautiful, no?

It's also worth noting that Florence is pretty friendly with Anna Wintour's favourite girl, Blake Lively. I love the story of how Blake Lively got invited to the couture shows last summer. If you missed it, it goes like this:

"I was speaking with Anna Wintour and we were just talking about different fashion houses and I said, 'I love Chanel,' and she said, 'You should come with me to the show.' I also said I loved Dior. She said 'OK, well I'll take you to the Chanel and Dior shows and we'll meet with Karl and John [Galliano] afterwards.' Insane!"

Obviously Florence deserves the Vogue appearance anyway, but I wonder if Blake made a sneaky phone call to Anna Wintour's office. Something about how she loves Florence and the Machine, Tim Walker and peacock feathers...

he born in January 17, 1969) is a Dutch musician, DJ and record producer of electronic dance music. Although he has used many aliases in the past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tiesto. On his latest productions, however, he has dropped the "DJ" label and is now known simply as "Tiësto", an alias which is a twist of his childhood nickname.

In 1997 (hey, its my birth year :D), he founded the label Black Hole Recordings with Arny Bink, where he released the Magik and In Search of Sunrise CD series. In 1999 and 2000 he collaborated with Ferry Corsten to create Gouryella. His 2000 remix of Delerium's "Silence" featuring Sarah McLachlan exposed him to more mainstream audiences. In 2001, he released his first solo album In My Memory which gave him several major hits that launched his career. He was named "World’s No.1 DJ" 3 consecutive times by DJ Magazine from 2002 through 2004.

Just after releasing his second studio album Just Be in 2004 at the Summer Olympics, he performed live at the opening ceremony in Athens, Greece, becoming the first DJ to play live on stage at an Olympics. Tracks he made especially for the Olympics were mixed together and released as the mix compilation Parade of the Athletes later that year. In April 2007 Tiësto launched both his radio show Tiësto's Club Life on Radio 538 in the Netherlands and released his third studio album titled Elements of Life. The album reached number one on the Dutch album chart as well on "Billboard Top Electronic Albums" in the U.S. and received a nomination for a Grammy Award in 2008. Tiësto released his fourth studio album called Kaleidoscope in October 2009.

Same Prada Dress, Two Covers: Who Wears it Better, Amanda Seyfried or Abbie Cornish?

Usually I don't like 'who wore it better?' features, but when I noticed that Amanda Seyfried and Abbie Cornish have both been photographed in the beautiful green-printed Prada S/S 2011 dress for magazine covers I became interested. Amanda was photographed by Matthias Vriens-McGrath for Marie Claire UK's April subscribers cover (she wears Chanel on the newsstand copy) and Abbie appears on the April 2011 edition of Harper's Bazaar Australia in the same dress.

Which one is the best?

My interest was mainly sparked because last year there was that hugely over-the-top 'scandal' when the same Miu Miu dress made a number of magazine covers - will this be a similar situation? I wouldn't be surprised if this dress lands even more covers. And then there is the small (and really rather insignificant) fact that both Amanda and Abbie have dated Ryan Phillippe. If Reese Witherspoon wears it too it will be quite the hattrick. Eva Mendes (who has no Ryan connection) has also worn this number. See, it's already getting quite confusing....

Alexander McQueen "Savage Beauty" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

We're just days away from the Oscars but I'm already busy thinking about the Met Gala Benefit, which takes place on May 2nd. The Met Gala - known as "the fashion Oscars" - is my favourite annual red carpet event and I'm particularly excited this year, as the Costume Institute will be celebrating the work of Alexander McQueen.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibition, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, will run from May 4th through to July 31st, and yesterday I was lucky enough to attend the Press Presentation at The Ritz London.
Samantha Cameron kicked off the breakfast presentation stating that she was "thrilled" by the "recognition of British fashion". She was followed by Thomas Campbell, Director of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Andrew Bolton, Curator of the exhibition from The Costume Institute, who talked us through the exhibition, which will feature approximately 100 pieces from McQueen's 19-year fashion career.

François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek will act as Honorary Chairs, and Stella McCartney, Anna Wintour and (rather randomly) Colin Firth will Co-Chair the Gala Benefit. I can't wait to see which McQueen pieces are worn on the red carpet, and it looks like I will be in NYC on May 4th, which is when the exhibition opens, so I'm hoping I'll get to see it in person.

Lady Gaga covers US Vogue's March Issue

It wasn't a secret that Lady Gaga was going to cover US Vogue's March 2011 issue, especially as the cover leaked a few weeks ago. But it has finally been officially released and I love it. I'm not a hardcore Gaga fan, as you all know, but this cover definitely brings something new to US Vogue. I love the pale aqua backdrop against the pink wig, adore the fact she's wearing Haider Ackermann on the cover, and think it's nice that a less mainstream idea of beauty is being represented on the cover. Because talent doesn't always come in the form of Blake Lively.

The cover and editorial were shot by Mario Testino, and you can see the full edit over at Vogue online. I really do think this is a breath of fresh air for Vogue; it feels very light and fun. The February issue was a great read and I now have very high hopes for the March issue. If you haven't read US Vogue for a while now is the time to pick up a copy. The team are on top form this year, as the March cover shows.

 And Lady Gaga's interview is sure to be interesting as well. It's up already on the Vogue website, but I always like to save the reading until I have the magazine in my hands. How terribly old fashioned!

spring/summer 2011 Trend report

• Hyper color

We can't remember a season in which fashion has wrapped its arms around color like it has for Spring—and it wasn't just the designers you'd expect doing the hugging. Haider Ackermann tried teal and electric blue on for size; Aquilano.Rimondi combined poppy citrus hues; and Mr. Understatement himself, Raf Simons, served up a Crayola cocktail at Jil Sander. The best part? As Simons so cleverly demonstrated, brights look great with black.

• Lace Embrace

Where's the news in lace for Spring, you ask? In its sheer diversity. Dolce & Gabbana dug through a bride's trousseau for some needlepoint inspiration, and there was likewise a lot of romance in Ralph Lauren's return to the Old West. On the flip side, Christopher Kane balanced his feminine silhouettes with in-your-face, neon colors. And Balenciaga's shirts—a mash-up of sequins and mismatched, plasticized lace—channeled street punks.

• Midi is the Message

To-the-knee? Sure. Ankle-length? OK. Mid-calf? Huh? Better get used to it—it's time to invest in a new hemline. With the return of ladylike dressing, three-quarter-length skirts are on the rise everywhere from Calvin Klein Collection and Narciso Rodriguez to Rodarte and Roland Mouret. Versus and Prabal Gurung showed them second-skin tight, but Hannah MacGibbon gave Chloé's a lift with pleats, sheer fabrics, and easy-on-the-feet ballet flats.

• The Yves Standard

The seventies ruled the Spring runways—the Yves Saint Laurent seventies, to be exact. "YSL, you know, my usual fave," Marc Jacobs said backstage, name-checking the inspiration for his gleeful, glam ode to the decade. With last year's hugely successful Saint Laurent retrospective at Paris' Musée des Beaux-Arts, Jacobs wasn't the only one riffing on peasant blouses, safari jackets, vibrant colors, and other elements of the master's oeuvre. See Gucci, Emilio Pucci, and, mais bien sûr, Stefano Pilati's own tribute to the house that Yves built.

• We Wear the Pants

Printed sheaths not for you? Wouldn't be seen dead in a midi? Don't worry, tailored trousers were also a focus this season. At Derek Lam, a high waist and relaxed leg were in step with the seventies trend, while at Michael Kors, it was all about borrowing from the boys. And for those of you who can't make up your minds, the dress-over-pants look seen at Richard Chai Love promises to remain a big trend through Fall.

• Seeing the light

You know it's a bona fide trend when even the princes of darkness cross over to the light side. Alexander Wang uncharacteristically offered zero black, opting to show an optimistic collection in which just a few soft pastels shared the runway with the white stuff. And Rick Owens joined in on the season's clean sweep, too, sending out alien angels in pearly-toned tunics with floor-grazing skirts. Other designers feeling all white now included Ann Demeulemeester, Celine, and newcomer Pedro Lourenço.

• Prints Revolution

Designers went bananas (literally, in Miuccia Prada's case) for quirky patterns this season. Flora, fauna, fruita—you name it, they printed it. Leopard, python, and polka dots ruled at Givenchy, Roberto Cavalli, and Moschino. Too tame for you? Models wore houses on their backs at Mary Katrantzou; and Marco Zanini put Françoise Sagan quotes and paintings by an obscure Swedish artist on his gowns at Rochas.
